Western Australia's wildflower season rolls south from Ningaloo and the Coral Coast through the Mid West and into Perth between July and October. Around Mullewa, Mingenew and Coalseam Conservation Park the bush turns pink, white and yellow with everlastings, while Lesueur National Park holds more than 900 plant species, including banksias and kangaroo paws. This is a season, not a single event, and the show changes every year with winter rain. Ask local visitor centres what is flowering before you set off.

Getting there: You need a car for the Mid West wildflower country. Coalseam Conservation Park is reached on sealed and gravel roads from Mingenew and Mullewa. In Perth, Kings Park is the easy option, with the free 935 bus from St Georges Terrace.
